All PhD students of NIS are encouraged to submit an abstract that best represents their recent work, including recent methodologies, results or promising future approaches under development.
Abstract Format – Each abstract should cover background, including motivation and objectives, main contribution and methods as well as results/discussion and conclusion. The total number of characters excluding spaces, title, author names, and affiliations is limited to 2500. Figures and tables can also be included, where each figure/table will count for 500 characters towards the allowed total of 2500 characters. Note that abstracts cannot be larger than one A4 page, including figures.
– Abstract submissions are now CLOSED. –
The most prominent works will be selected for a short (7min) oral presentation on the day of the NIS workshop. To avoid any potential issues during live presentation, selected presentations should also be recorded and submitted prior to the workshop. This video will only be used if, for any reason, the live presentation cannot be broadcast. PhD students who do are not selected for oral presentation will be invited to submit a virtual presentation of their work (2min) which will be made public to NIS Workshop participants on the day of the workshop.
Video/Presentation Format – Both selected and not-selected PhD students are thus required to submit a video recording of their presentations, with a maximum duration of 7 and 2 minutes respectively. Each video should include visual support of the materials being presented as well as audio (such as your voice recorded over a timed Powerpoint presentation). Video recording of the presenter are optional. Presenters are highly encouraged to use the available INESC TEC templates. Please ensure that your presentation follows the following requirements:
- The resolution should be 720p or 1080p
- The video aspect ratio must be 16:9 or 4:3 in landscape orientation
- The submitted file must be in MP4 format and must not exceed 1GB
- All content, written and spoken, must be in English
- Background music is not allowed
- The title of the submitted work, authors and affiliations must be shown prominently on the first slide of your presentation
– Presentations submissions are now CLOSED. –
The best 4 presentations will be selected for the Best PhD Student Awards (worth €100 each*), announced on the day of the workshop. The presentations submitted are available at the INESC TEC drive.
